Why Seattle Homes Are Perfect for Cozy Newborn Sessions.
You've just given birth and want to keep life as low-key as possible... because with a baby, there's SO much already going on. Seattle weather can be tricky. One minute it's sunny and the next it's rainy. The forecast predicts clear skies but outside your window it's hailing. An in home newborn session is the perfect way to calm that unpredictable stress. We don't have to shift our schedules to account for gaps between the rainstorms. Instead, we can find a time that works best for your family and your baby's nap/feeding schedule. We can do a cozy in home newborn session.
Home is comfy for everyone.
Babies are so little but they have so many demands! As you head out the door, a zillion things cross your mind. Did you bring spare diapers? An extra change of clothes? A stroller or carrier? What if baby cries too loud in public? If you have other children, you might worry if they'll need a snack or run off during the photo session. In an in home newborn session, we can go off of baby's (and sibling's) schedule. Extra cuddles on the couch, feeding in the rocking chair or running to the pantry to get sibling a snack are all so comfy in your familiar environment. Newborn photo sessions aren't perfect but can be more relaxed.
Home is a meaningful memory.
That afternoon light in the living room, rocking chair where baby feeds or crib where you hope baby'll eventually take naps are all meaningful memories. When everyone is a bit older and coming out of the whirlwind and blur of having a newborn, you'll look back on the photos that preserved these tiny details. You don't need a magazine worthy home for beautiful photos. I'll do a walk through of the house and help point out spots with great lighting. I can help move cribs towards the window, open up blinds and hide clutter so that the focus is on your family loving on your baby.
If there's really dark and stormy clouds or if you love a specific room but the lighting is dim, I can use off camera flash to introduce good lighting into that room. Some gear I typically pack are my Godox AD200 flash, light stand, transmitter and large 6' parabolic umbrella modifier to create abundant, soft and natural-looking light.
Consider an in home session for when baby is born.
There's no right or wrong time for newborn photos. If you like a sleepy baby, scheduling an in home newborn session when they're 1-2 weeks old is great. But if you need some more time to heal or adjust to the new routine, we can do photos when baby is 1 month, 6 months or even a year old. We will do what's right for your family, because it's the love, joy and connection that's what matters.
