Cherry blossom family photos in Bellevue
Give me all the squishy babies! The newborn phase is sweet, but there's something about the baby phase... when a baby's cheeks have filled out, they're alert for longer periods of time and can show off their personality that makes this phase so fun to photograph! I met up with this family on a cloudy day in Bellevue, just as the cherry blossoms peaked. Here are some tips to make the most of your cherry blossom session.

Be flexible as the weather can be unpredictable.
I love clouds as they act like a giant soft box and make the lighting nice and even. We initially scheduled a morning session before baby's nap but the rain (which was NOT forecasted) rolled in. I always appreciate families when they can be flexible! We moved our session to the afternoon, after baby's nap and fortunately, got great weather and even better smiles.

Plan for some crowds.
Cherry blossoms are super popular because they're gorgeous. Going on a week-day will be quieter than a week-end! If you have some work and school flexibility, going in the morning or mid-day will also have less crowds. If there's people, I will shoot upwards, to isolate your family from the crowds. We may also move around a bit, to quieter spots or wait a few minutes for the busier spots.

Coordinate, don't match.
The trend for everyone to be wearing the same tops with the same jeans is over. Choose 2-3 colors and make sure they complement each other. If choosing pastels, make sure all the colors are pastel. If choosing jewel tones, make sure they're all jewel tones. Baby's sweater was hand knit by grandmother, which was so meaningful! Having him in a different color than mom and dad helped him pop. Having different textures, from dad's furry fleece, to the intricacies of baby's sweater to mom's delicate cardigan added some visual interest.
Spring is such a fresh, fun and beautiful time for family photos. If you've had fall photos in the past, consider a spring session! To see more cherry blossom photos, see my blog post here. Thanks for reading!
