An urban winter family photo location idea.
The winter months can be dark and dreary! The flowers and lush leaves are gone and the sunshine is non-existent. But you can STILL have an awesome family photoshoot during the winter months. Instead of relying on lots of greenery, I rely on the structures from urban locations to offer visual interest and variety. Meydenbauer Bay Park is a neat location that I only offer in the winter months. Spring, summer and fall are just too crowded in this park. You'll have too many people in the frame, spend too much time waiting for certain spots to use and have a harder time finding a parking spot. In the winter months, the people are few and far between making it an ideal winter family photo location!
Meydenbauer Bay Park has a lot of variety.
This park has a lot to offer in a small amount of space! There's a rocky beach, pedestrian pier, playground, evergreen trees, viewing terrace, benches and level, paved pathways. Everything is within a 10 minute walk of each other, making it a great location for the young and elderly alike.
Dress warmly for winter family photos.
Because this location is near the water, it's important to dress warmly because warm kids = happy kids. Wearing water resistant shoes, base layers and thicker knits will ensure everyone is comfortable and bring out the genuine smiles. It's also good to pack some spare clothes in case your child accidentally gets wet at the beach.
A few things to note.
The winter months can be quite unpredictable, weather wise! It's important to have flexibility on the day of the session as we may need to move the session earlier to avoid the rain or wind. Parking is free, with an option to park in the overflow lot or find street parking if the main spots are taken. There's a public bathroom and the playground includes a swing, slides and a climbing structure. There's awesome restaurants within a 10 minute walk, including Fern Thai and Ginza.
