Family photos with a baby at Kubota Garden.

Sleepy newborn sessions are great, but having a squishy, happy and engaged baby can be super fun too! Family photos can happen at any time in your life. It doesn't have to happen within the 2 week window during the newborn phase. Some families are in the thick of sleepless nights and transitioning from 0->1 kids, 1->2 kids or 2+ kids and adding a newborn session can be overwhelming. I've photographed babies in all months and any time that works for your family is a great time for a family photo session.

I met this family at Kutoba Garden in Seattle. This garden is a 20 acre Japanese style garden, beautiful at any time of the year. In the fall, come mid-October, the colors are SO rich. Reds, oranges, yellows and greens...it is stunning.

Kubota Garden has wide open spaces.

If you've read a lot of my blog posts here and here, you know I love places with wide open spaces because you can spread out! When crowds aren't in your bubble, watching you interact with your family, you can let your guard down and be silly. Kubota Garden has so many nooks and crannies that we can easily hide from the crowds while getting a beautiful backdrop.

Kubota Garden has different backdrops.

Within a 10 minute walk of each other, Kubota Garden has a bridge, a reflection pond, a grassy lawn and various pathways with different types of fall foliage. This is great for families with young kids who tire easily or want to keep engaged by seeing new things. This also offers a diverse, well rounded gallery for your family to enjoy.

A few things to note about Kubota Garden:

  • Kubota Garden is quietest on week-days. This is especially important in the fall, when so many visitors come to see the colorful maple leaves. I will photograph families in the spring and summer on week-days and week-ends, however will only photograph families on week-days in the fall.
  • Fall colors will peak in mid-October to early November. The weather might be cold and rainy. I ask for flexibility on your session date so that we can schedule around the rain.
  • This garden has bathrooms and free parking. The paths are gravel with some slight incline.
