My approach to birthday party photography.
I do a few birthday parties each year and this one was so special! I loved this one year old's doljanchi. There was an intimate group of friends, a casual back yard vibe, beautiful decorations and outfit changes! My approach going in to birthday parties is to get a gallery full of variety. We did posed photos, candid moments, detail shots, a cake smash and doljabi in our two hour session together. We started with posed photos of immediate and extended family, before the other guests arrived. I approached this time the way I normally would for a family session. We played games, sang songs and tickled to get the sweet, genuine smiles out!

I'll document the details to give the guests some space.
As the guests slowly trickled in, I gave them a few minutes to say hello to each other. There's nothing more stressful than having a camera pointed at you right away! I took this opportunity to capture all the yummy details and thoughtfully designed banners, handwritten notes and photo frames. Every family works so hard putting together a party. Birthday party photography documents this effort!

I'll be front and center for your important moments.
This sweet girl had a doljabi, where she picked the blessing of "talent" for her future. She also had a cake smash and was unsure if she liked to eat cake or not. These precious moments only happen once in your life. The joy, pride and love you feel is so touching to watch. Freezing these moments for you to relive over and over again is what makes birthday party photography so worth it.
